Microsoft had just accounce a new server platform, designed for home. Introducing the Windows Home Server, it works just like how servers works in the enterprise environment, but at a very much smaller scale.

The Home Server acts as a central storage for your home needs, storing your documents, pictures, music and videos (regardless where you get them from). It also acts as a disaster recovery center, the Home Server is able to backup every single bit of data from all your computers, allowing your to restore files or the entire PC.

What’s more, Windows Home Server can and might be part of your home entertaiment setup, with the ability to stream media, send music, photos and video to the Xbox360 or other supported digital media receiver on your home network.

According to InsideMicrosoft, Windows Home Server Beta 2 will be released on the January 22. Projected date for the Release Candidate as May 15 and the Release to Manufacturing on June 22.

InsideMicrosoft had provided a great deal of details on the features provided by the Home Server.
