By , January 20, 2009 8:37 am

Drop in prices is always welcomed by all consumers, especially during the period of recession. According to xbitlabs,

Intel’s Core 2 Quad central processing unit model Q9650 (3.0GHz, 12MB L2 cache, 1333MHz processor system bus) has lost 40% of its price in business quantities and is now available for $316. Other quad-core models from Intel, such as Q9550, Q9400, Q8300 and Q8200 has lost 16% – 20% of pricing. The Core 2 Quad Q8200 chip, Intel’s most affordable processor with four processing engines is available for $163. In addition to quad-core desktop chips, Intel also made several quad-core Xeon chips for uni-processor servers more affordable.

Prices for the Quad-Cores has gotten so affordable, making people wondering when the Extreme series and the newly launched i7 processors will start climbing down the price ladder.

Microsoft U.K. website was recently attacked and defaced by a hacker known as rEmOtEr. The hacker has successfuly gained access to the website and altered a webpage, creating one with two images and multiple references to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

It is known that the attacker gained access by using a common attack known as SQL injection. Contributing to the succes was the fact that the webserver was allowed to return error messages. By studying the error message (and equipped with relavent knowledge) one can slowly work his way in, causing the webserver to return information that it is not meant to access.
